If you haven't checked out the main site in awhile, it's time to take a look. We've added reviews of organic body products and sun care by Herbal Elements, Avalon Organics, and Alba; reviews of eco-friendly household cleaners by Seventh Generation; reviews of eco fashion by Loomstate and Nau; and many more items.

We've also reviewed some lovely merino wool active wear by Sugoi and a stainless steel water bottle by Earthlust.

The Problem with Health Care

My hair stylist and I have so much more to talk about than my hair, and currently, we're sick of discussing men. We're too busy trying to solve a few of our nation's problems. Here's what we came up with today:

Health care needs to be accessible to all, affordable to all, and provided for free to those who cannot work or become unemployed. How to fund these changes: tax all unnecessary food and beverages. Tax junk food, tax McDonald's and other fast food, tax Twinkies, tax processed and boxed food with sugar in it. Then make some changes in the farm bill -- subsidize fruits and vegetables and regional organic farms. Make healthy food affordable to all. It's not that complicated. But the people who benefit from the current system don't want to change--even if it's best for communities.

Read Michael Pollan's article on how U.S. food policies impact climate, then read his book, In Defense of Food. The more you learn, the more you can get involved.

Write your state reps and congressmen/women!!!!!

An Afternoon of Slow Living

What a fancy day I've had. I walked downtown from my home to run an errand. I bartered for goods/services. I walked deeper into the city to check out some eco apparel. I walked back home, stopping at the post office on my way. I carried my items in my Mountain Hardwear day pack. I was gone for 2.5-3 hours. I burned lots of calories. I didn't pollute. I didn't waste money on parking. And I got to talk to a nice young couple from Arkansas on the street. A banner day.

Eco Cleaners

I've been trying to clean up my act. Living like a slob is a drag. I can live with my mess, but friends don't want to come over and sit in my dirty house. So, I've been attacking every room with a frenzy...and a bottle of eco-friendly cleaning liquid. Loving Seventh Generation's Dish Liquid and Automatic Dishwashing Powder -- both from the Free & Clear line (no dyes, no bleach, no perfumes or fragrance, no phosphates, etc). Today tried an all-purpose spray cleaner from EO - love it! Check the site for reviews.

Electric Trucks

Read in the Seattle Times today about an electric trucking company called Smith Electric Vehicles. Their Newton truck carries 16,000 pounds and can go 100 miles on one charge. Coca-Cola, AT&T, Staples, and Frito-Lay have are using their trucks. COOL.
